Resource conservation programs have been in place in our Frito Lay Canada manufacturing plants for over a decade. These teams have led the way in reducing the amount of fuel and electricity that we use in the production of our delicious snacks. Through various sustainability projects and manufacturing process improvements we have been able to dramatically reduce our energy impact on the planet. Our progress to date includes:
In 2009, we opened a new environmentally sustainable distribution centre facility in Surrey, British Colombia. This distribution centre is a LEED Silver-certified facility and serves as a model for the rest of our facilities through innovations in green power, alternative lighting, energy efficiency standards and environmentally-conscious construction choices. Continuing this journey, we moved into a new LEED Gold-certified Headquarters facility in Mississauga, Ontario in early 2011. As we make improvements to the rest of our sites, we anticipate that these will be the first of many to earn LEED certification.
